Can Chrome OS Make an Impact on Global Economy?

Right now, Microsoft is the richest company in the world and the main reason behind their richness is the matter that with some exceptions, almost all the computers in the world have Windows Operating System (OS). Until now, no company could make any impact in the total dominance of Windows in this market segment. Linux is free but many people think that it is difficult to install and operate and that is why it could not get good market share. The same goes Apple’s OS. Now, Google is going to try their luck with Chrome OS. No one is dismissing the possibility of Chrome being able to make a serious dent in the market share of Microsoft.

I think that two things are impressive about Chrome OS. First, it is free and will be based on open source technology. Secondly, Google is going to make its Chrome OS solely for cloud computing in which the users will be connected to Internet and will not need to install programs. The users will be able to do everything by getting connected to the remote servers. Thus, it is a direct challenge to business model of Microsoft who sells sofwares. So, if Chrome has the real potential to decrease the cost on softwares. Google has already done something superb to challenge Microsoft Office with its Google Docs.

If Chrome reaches to millions of people around the world then it will surely decrease the cost on software for many companies and countries. Then, the companies can cut their IT budget and get more productivity with less investment. If it really happens then it will revolutionize the global economy.

Well, enough of dreaming. Chrome OS has not been released yet.
