Fast Food and Green Technology

Green technology or renewal energy is still considered to be expensive and not economically feasible. That is why, most people are still dependent on oil and coal for their electricity production. Sources like Sun light or solar power, win turbine or win power are still not feasible in most of the places. However, green technology or green energy is good for environment and it is clean. Solar energy or solar electricity is much better than oil or coal based electricity. In the same way, I think that healthy eating should be promoted but still in most of the big cities, healthy eating is not economically feasible.

Most people are now looking for a short cut solution and that is why they have become fan of fast food. Just think of burgers and French fries. They are made with lot of oil and meat and they are not healthy at all. On the other hand, if you eat fish curry or vegetables or salad they are very good but they are not tasty. That is why, I hope that people become conscious about it and they become ready to pay some more money for eating healthy items in food shops. Only then, the food shops will be interest to make healthy food items a real business and it will be helpful for all of us in the end.

England Election 2010: bad luck for Gordon Brown?

There is now just 29 days before the general election 2010 in England. The labor party is in power but they are not that popular now. I feel sympathy for Mr. Gordon Brown because he became prime minister at a time when the global economy was suffering from economic recession. It is not his fault and he could do hardly anything to stop this global problem.

England was very badly hit by this recession and many people lost job. The income of the people decreased and now the recession has not yet gone totally. The opposition conservative party is trying to take maximum advantage from this problem. However, I don’t think that if they come to power then thing will change in near future. Well, the condition that I can see, I will not be surprised if there is a hung parliament or coalition takes place. If there is any possibility of any coalition government then I think that conservative will in a bad position because liberal democrats can form a qualition government easily. I mainly to say that there is hardly any possibility of a coalition government comprising of conservative and liberal democrats.

President Obama: Will Healthcare Victory bring Election Win?

Later this year, there is going to be election in USA. No, the post of Obama is not at stake but the seats of many Congressmen are at stake. Right now, the president is celebrating his victory over the healthcare bill. Many ordinary people in the country are happy too with him. However, there are many too who did not like the bill. So, now, Obama will have to try hard to satisfy at least his supporters. The healthcare bill should be implemented in a good way.

Often a good bill is passed but then it is not followed well and people do not get the benefit. This should not happen to the healthcare bill. Obama should personally try that the benefits reach to the ordinary people and maximum number of people.

Internet is Changing Bangladeshi Economy

In last one year, some important technological development happened in Bangladesh. First of all, Wimax internet came and it changed many things for people like me who are always browsing. Now, I can watch YouTube videos almost uninterruptedly with my QUBEE connection of 512 kbps. It was unimaginable even last year this time. The second change that has happened is the introduction of IP telephony. With IP telephony, keeping contact with other people will become very easy and inexpensive. For example, three bloggers work under me and they are living in different parts of Dhaka city. Now, I have to keep contact by them with mobile phone and it is expensive because we have to pay per minute. However, with IP telephony, we would be able to talk among us unlimitedly without spending a lot of money.

The third thing that has made me hopeful about the future of this country is online transaction. Online transaction or e-commerce is something that should have come long ago but unfortunately, it is coming only this year. Most probably, from 1 July 2010, we will be able to carry out online transaction. If there is any delay then it can be 1 January 2011. So, within just next one year, we will be able to carry out online transactions and it is really a very big and good news for us.

I just hope that more young people in Dhaka become conscious about this blessing of technology. Internet has changed the way we interact and do business in many countries of the world. It is time the same thing happens in Bangladesh.

Economic Recession Should Teach Us Something

The great economic recession of 2008 is slowly removing and most people are now free from its clutch. Now, there is hope and there is new energy in the economies of Europe and America. I wonder if the economic recession has taught us any lesson. The first lesson I can see is that no economy is invincible. The US economy is baed on consumerism and the basic idea is that people should work harder and earn more. When they can earn more, they can consume more and when there is more consumption then there is more demand and more supply.

Now, the most important lesson that I can think of is that people should start to think about their life again. Consumption is good but too much of anything is bad. They simply need to understand that they must learn to live without many of the luxuries and without their credit card. When you have a decent job and fixed income then using credit card once in a while is no problem. But when you are living in uncertainty then you should not get addicted to credit card.

The recession showed us that capitalism is not perfect. Of course, capitalism was never perfect and free market economy has its bad sides too.

Greece: Recession is Knocking at the Door

The condition of economy of Greece is not good at that moment and the government needs to do something radical to save the economy. It is difficult because many people in the country are suffering and they perhaps can not tolerate more suffering. However, there is little hope of any solution or any recovery unless the people of Greece sacrifice ever more. I am sad to see that the other members of European Union are not that active in helping Greece and they should change their attitude.

Rich countries out side of European Union like USA and Japan should come forward in support of Greece too. In the past, USA did not have that good relationship with Greece because is traditional allay in the region was considered to be Turkey. We know that Turkey and Greece have bad relationship and over Cyprus and other issue. Now, it is perhaps the time that USA at least provides support to Greece economically more. It is not a good thing to see an economy of a country failed. The bad condition of an economy creates fear in the mind of many people of other country.

Should Obama Put Tax Money for Job Creation Now?

In 2009, Obama administration put a lot of tax pay as money to bring the economy out of recession. In 2010, the USA economy is somewhat out of recession danger zone but the reality is that the life of people is still tough. The main problem is that most people who lost jobs during the recession months have not got back their jobs. Unemployment is now the biggest challenge and it seems that job creation is happening very slowly. So, I was thinking today whether Obama should put more money to help creating jobs.

Last night, many people in USA were searching about IBM lay outs and you know that IBM employees thousands of workers in USA.

Impressive GDP Growth for US Economy in last Quarter of 2009

At last, there is some hope for the US economy as there has been positive growth in the last quarter of 2009. In October to December 2009 quarter, GDP growth was 5.9% compare to the same time of 2008. As a result, there is now perhaps a sense of optimism that economic recession will gradually be removed in 2010. Well, not everything looks very good and solid. Still, the economy is not creating new jobs and as a result many people are unemployed.
High rate of unemployment means that consumer confidence is not strong. USA has a consumer based economy and consumer spending is a very important factor for the health of this economy.
So, there are both hope and frustration for the economy in 2010. On the one hand, things are gradually becoming better and the worst of economic recession is surely behind us. On the other hand, creating jobs is still becoming a major challenge for everyone.

Coke will acquire the North American operations of Coca-Cola Enterprises

On February 25, 2010, American soft drink giant, Coca Cola, announced that it is going to acquire the North American operations of its largest bottler, Coca-Cola Enterprises. For the last twenty four years, Coca-cola kept its bottling business separate from its soft-drink business. New York Times reports:
“We have a strong and unrelenting belief in our unique and thriving global bottling system,” Muhtar Kent, Coke’s chief executive, said in a statement. “Our new North American structure will create an unparalleled combination of businesses, which will serve as our passport to winning in the world’s largest nonalcoholic ready-to-drink profit pool.”
The deal marks the end of Coke’s idea of keeping its main operations — the development and marketing of the syrup concentrates that form the basis of its fizzy drinks — from the production and distribution of the end products.

It would be a “cashless deal” where the companies would take over their operations. Coke will take over the North American operations of C.C.E. In exchange, C.C.E would acquire the bottling plants in Norway and Sweden and focus on Europe. C.C.E would also gain 83% stake in Coke’s German bottling operation in the next three years. The deal is expected to be closed in the fourth quarter. Post closing, Coke will own about 90% of its American bottling operations.
Coke will give up its 34 percent stake in C.C.E. valued at $3.4 billion and would assume debts and other obligations of C.C.E worth about $9.5 billion. Coke’s Norwegian and Swedish bottling operation are valued at about $822 million.

Only Tough Times Ahead for Greece

Greece is not a rich country in Europe and it has a history of economic problem. Right now, the country’s economy is suffering mainly from the effects of economic recession. Many people in Greece are not happy and they think that it is not their fault. They are just suffering for the mistakes of richer European countries like England, Germany and France. However, Greece has its own problems and the main problem the country is suffering at the moment is public deficit or budget deficit. In simple words, the government is spending much more money then it is earning. In fact, budget deficit is now 12.7 % which is a dangerous figure.

What the Greek government needs to do is to decrease its spending and increase its revenue. It may sound very easy but the solution is very problematic. In order to decrease revenue, the government has to put tax on basic items like petrol and alcohol. On the other hand, in order to decrease government spending, the Greek government has to take away a lot of money from different projects. Also, it has to decrease support to government corporations and it should not increase salary of public sector employees.

You can easily understand that it will not become popular to the ordinary people. Many people understand that the government has no choice but to take some austerity measures. However, not everyone is happy and today, there is a twenty-four hour general strike. The bad part of the general strike is that the tourism sector is also under it. This is bad news because one of the major earning sources for the country is tourism.
